Made to Crave book review

About the book:

Just because a woman finally
fits into her skinny jeans
doesn't mean she's won her
battle with food. Too often,
women overlook the
spiritual component to their
physical struggle with healthy
eating. Made to Crave taps
into the desires God gave
you to consume food without
letting food consume you!!

Made To Crave
Satisfying Your Deepest Desire With God, Not Food

by: Lysa TerKeurst

My review:

When I was first offered a spot on Lysa's blog tour, I'll be completely honest, I
figured that this was just another every-day, diet book!! Wow, was I ever wrong!!
First of all, I want to say that Lysa is sbrutally  honest that you fall in love with her right
from the start. She says, "I'm a simple Jesus girl on a journey to finding deeper motivation than just a number on my scale." I think that so many women can relate to that exact comment. Lysa is truthful, yet funny at the same time, she definitely keeps
you reading, that's for sure.

So many women want to, need to, or have to lose weight. But it's like the intro is titled, it's
all about, 'finding your way to want to.'  I mean when you think about it, it just makes so much sense. She explains how you can't let your rationalizations and excuses speak to you
or you'll end up putting off losing the weight until another time.

Of course, I don't want to give the whole book away, but I want to touch on a few different
parts that specifically spoke to me. When she says that "if feeling full were the answer, then gastric bypass surgery should be 100 percent successful." She said she believes that God made us to crave; but not as a cruel joke. When she quotes from passage:
Psalm 84:1-2 and John 2:15-16,
She says cravings = trying to get our physical desires met outside the will of God.
There is also the whole Adam and Eve Story, in:  Genesis 3-6.

But don't get discouraged, she says,
"Jesus sets a beautiful example of breaking this viscous cycle of being consumed by cravings...Jesus had been in a desert, fasting for forty days...And yet, He held strong and
set a powerful example of how to escape the viscous grip of temptation."
(I personally think this quote is worthy of a post-it note on the fridge!!)

Lysa finally became strong enough to admit she had been relying on food more than she'd been relying on God. She had craved food more than she craved God. Food was what she
had looked to for everything--comfort, joy, reward, in times of stress, etc. etc.
But once she could admit it. She could change it!!
She gives a pretty powerful example of what happened to the Isrealites that put their
food cravings before God.  From Psalm 78:18
Perhaps you'll want to look it up right now??
You will learn that they never made it to the promised land.

One of my personal favorite quotes from the book is:
"Friends don't let friends eat without thinking." How true is this?? Or at least,
how true should this be??? I personally think that if you don't already have the perfect
friends that will do this for you, then you need to either find yourself some new friends
who will, or you need to find yourself a support group.
The example Lysa gives about this is from Genesis 25:29-34

All in all, I am pretty confident that Lysa is definitely onto something here.
But if you are still questioning...
